Introduction by Laudelina Martinez
Martinez Gallery is pleased to present the virtual exhibition Searching for the Gold in celebration of its 20th anniversary since its founding in 2001.
The exhibition brings together several, though not all, of the artists who have had a relationship with the Gallery through the years. Searching for the Gold refers to that which is enduring and meaningful, signifying the ethos of the Gallery.
In the early spring of 2001, we announced that an art gallery was opening in downtown Troy. It was introduced as a “(mostly) contemporary art Gallery with a specialty in Latino and Latin American art” with Laudelina Martinez as the founder.
Since its founding the Gallery has been located in the Cannon Building, initially on the first floor and now in a second floor suite. The Cannon is part of the National Register of Historic Buildings, across from Troy’s iconic Monument Square.
The Gallery continues to represent Latino and Latin American artists, but has evolved to focus on underrepresented artists, besides working with established figures. It offers clients design and other services. The Gallery's outstanding educational component has been strengthened since launching its Virtual Gallery in November 2020.
We invite you to enjoy this virtual presentation.
